Aerolinea SOSAHondurasPassenger Experience
Aerolinea SOSA is not a global carrier — it’s a small Honduran regional airline with deep local roots and a no-frills operation. Here’s what the actual experience looks like.
La Ceiba airport (LCE)
La Ceiba’s Golosón International Airport is a mid-sized regional airport serving the North Coast. SOSA operates from a small section of the terminal. Check-in is quick and informal — arrive 45 minutes early, which is more than enough time. The lounge is basic; bring your own snacks for connections.
The aircraft
SOSA uses small piston or turboprop aircraft seating 5–15 passengers. On the LCE–UII route, the aircraft is very small, with limited headroom. The 12-minute flight is too short for discomfort — but also too short to develop anxiety if you’re not accustomed to small aircraft. The views are spectacular regardless.
Arrival at the Bay Islands
Utila’s airstrip is a grass runway steps from the water. Roatán’s Coxen Hole airport is modern and efficient. Both landings involve arriving directly into the island community with minimal formality — a very different experience from an international terminal. The casual, local atmosphere is part of what makes Bay Islands travel so distinctive.
