The Azuero Peninsula is where Panamanian identity was forged. Chitré is also the commercial hub for Panama's most authentic traditional craft production: the Ocú sombrero (a fine woven straw hat produced by a method unchanged for centuries), the pollera embroidery of Las Tablas, and the ceramics of La Arena.

Las Tablas Carnaval is Panama's most celebrated cultural festival — held for four days before Ash Wednesday. Playa Venado, 1.5 hours from CTD via Pedasi, is the finest surf break on the Azuero Peninsula — a consistent right-hand point and beach break producing waves of 3–6 feet from May through November. The break is relatively uncrowded by Pacific coast standards.
