Flying to Roatán on CM Airlines: What to Expect

CM AirlinesRoatánHondurasBay Islands

Roatán (RTB) is the Bay Islands’ main airport and the most visited destination in Honduras. CM Airlines’ SAP–RTB route is the primary way regional travelers and domestic Hondurans reach the island. Here’s what to expect.

The flight experience

CM Airlines’ SAP–RTB service uses small turboprop or regional jet aircraft for the 40-minute flight. The approach to Roatán is spectacular — the aircraft descends over the Caribbean with Half Moon Bay, West Bay and the barrier reef visible below. The Roatán airport is modern and efficient, with direct access to taxis and resort transfers.

Dive gear and baggage

CM Airlines allows standard baggage and has procedures for handling dive equipment, though advance arrangement is required. Surfboards and oversized items can be problematic on small aircraft. Private charter on AeroRide eliminates baggage stress entirely — the whole aircraft is yours and cargo capacity is generous.

The resort transfer puzzle

Many Roatán luxury resort guests arrive by commercial flight and then face the island’s transfer challenge: the airport is on the east end of a narrow island, while the best resorts (Infinity Bay, Kimpton, Las Verandas) are on the west end — 40+ minutes by road. Some resorts offer water taxi transfers. AeroRide’s private charter can land at the east end and be met by resort transfer, or land at a remote strip closer to specific west-end properties.
