The perfect 10-day Guatemala luxury itinerary — Guatemala City, Antigua, Chichicastenango, Lake Atitlán, Volcán Acatenango, and Tikal. Private guides, boutique hotels, and the complete Guatemala experience.
Ten Days in Guatemala: The Definitive Luxury Journey
Ten days is the ideal length for Guatemala. Enough time to experience the country’s main pillars — colonial Antigua, living Maya culture, volcanic Lake Atitlán, and the jungle temples of Tikal — while allowing proper pacing. Guatemala rewards slowness: every destination benefits from a second morning.
Days 1–2: Guatemala City — Arrival and Transition
Fly into La Aurora Airport (GUA). Guatemala City itself warrants one night: the Zona Viva has the finest restaurant scene in Guatemala. Dinner at Tamarindos (most creative restaurant in the country). Morning visit to the Ixchel Museum of Indigenous Textiles — the finest textile museum in Central America. Transfer to Antigua Day 2 afternoon.
Days 3–4: Antigua — The Colonial Immersion
Check into Casa Santo Domingo or El Convento. Day 3: full morning ruins walk with private cultural guide (Las Capuchinas, La Merced, Cathedral, Cerro de la Cruz at sunset). Dinner at Sobremesa. Day 4: Volcán Pacaya morning hike (depart 7 AM, return noon). Afternoon coffee at Café Condesa. Evening artisan market.
Day 5: Chichicastenango — Thursday or Sunday Only
If Day 5 falls on Thursday or Sunday (plan accordingly): depart Antigua 6 AM for Chichicastenango market. Arrive before 8 AM. Four hours in the market with private guide. Lunch at La Villa de los Cofrades. Continue to Panajachel for the night (1.5h from Chichi) or return to Antigua (2.5h).
Days 6–7: Lake Atitlán — The Volcanic Lake
Transfer from Antigua to Lake Atitlán (2.5h by private vehicle). Check into Casa Palopo for 2 nights. Day 6: afternoon boat tour of southern villages — San Juan (weaving cooperative + coffee farm), Santiago Atitlán (Maximón visit + textile market). Day 7: dawn kayak at 5:30 AM (the absolute Atitlán highlight). Morning free for the pool and volcanic views. Afternoon hike above Santa Catarina Palopó.
Day 8: Acatenango — The Overnight Volcano
Transfer from Atitlán back to Antigua (2.5h). Brief rest. 1 PM departure for La Soledad and the Acatenango ascent (4–5h to high camp, arriving at sunset for Fuego eruptions). Camp overnight at 3,700m. A demanding but achievable experience for healthy adults.
Day 9: Acatenango Summit + Tikal Flight
Dawn summit ascent (45 min from camp to 3,976m top). Descent (3–4h). Return to Antigua for shower. Transfer to Guatemala City airport for afternoon private charter flight to Flores, Petén (45 min). Transfer to lodge within Tikal National Park. Evening: acclimatizing walk in southern complexes.
Day 10: Tikal Sunrise + Return
4:30 AM wake-up. Sunrise from Temple IV with private archaeologist (the supreme moment of the journey). Full morning archaeological tour. Midday lunch at the lodge. Afternoon private charter back to Guatemala City. International departure.
