Aerolinea SOSAHondurasIslas de la BahíaLa Ceiba
Aerolinea SOSA is a Honduran regional carrier specializing in Bay Islands connections, operating primarily from La Ceiba (LCE) to Roatán (RTB) and Utila (UII). While smaller than CM Airlines, SOSA has earned a loyal following among repeat Bay Islands visitors who appreciate the airline’s local character and knowledge.
SOSA’s route network
SOSA operates LCE–RTB and LCE–UII as its core routes — the connections that link the Bay Islands to the North Coast hub of La Ceiba. The LCE–UII connection is particularly important, as Utila (the world’s cheapest dive certification destination) is not well-served by other carriers. SOSA also operates some connections to San Pedro Sula (SAP).
SOSA’s Utila advantage
SOSA’s most important contribution to Honduran domestic aviation is its Utila service. Utila is a small island of 3,000 residents and thousands of annual divers — La Costeña–style committed to budget dive certification. Reaching Utila without SOSA requires a ferry from La Ceiba, adding 2 hours to the journey. SOSA cuts this to a 15-minute hop.
Private charter for the Bay Islands
For groups or resorts needing reliable, schedule-flexible Bay Islands connections, AeroRide’s private charter from SAP, TGU or LCE to RTB or UII offers a seamless alternative. The per-person cost for a group of 4 flying SAP–UII is comparable to two SOSA tickets with connecting bus to La Ceiba.
