Private Charter from Corn Island to Tortuguero

The Caribbean corridor almost nobody runs. One hundred nautical miles between two roadless destinations, in different countries, with the same access logic.

Ninety-nine point nine nautical miles along the Central American Caribbean coast. It is the shortest route between two destinations no road reaches, and probably the one fewest people have ever asked for. Quoted per aircraft on request.

Two places with no road

It is what makes this route different from every other in the catalogue.

Corn Island is reached by air or by sea. Tortuguero, by air or by river. Neither has road access, and at both the final leg is operated by someone else.

The consequence is one: the flight competes with nothing overland, because there is nothing overland. It is the Guanaja category, not the Papagayo one.

Departure and entry formalities vary by country and need lead time; we coordinate them with every passenger’s details.

By land and sea it is three or four days

The alternative is not a road: it is a chain.

Leave Corn Island by boat or scheduled flight to Bluefields or Managua. Cross Nicaragua. Cross Peñas Blancas. Head down to San José. And from there climb to the Costa Rican Caribbean and take the river to Tortuguero.

Five or six links and a land border crossing. One hundred nautical miles by air.

It crosses a border, with two small ends

An international flight between Nicaragua and Costa Rica, with the corresponding deadlines. Departure and entry formalities vary by country and need lead time; we coordinate them with every passenger’s details.

And here the reverse of what we noted at Liberia–Managua applies: there both ends were international airports used to the formalities; here neither is.

That does not prevent operating, but it means more advance coordination and less schedule flexibility. Ask well ahead.

And the two final transfers

At Corn Island there is no transfer if your destination is Big Corn: the airport is in the town. If you continue to Little Corn, the boat keeps its own timetable. The final leg is by boat, run by a third party and dependent on sea conditions.

At Tortuguero there is: the field sits on the bar and the lodge is reached by river, with a last departure of the day. Access to the lodges is by river and has a last departure of the day that sets your flight time.

Leaving Corn Island, the governing hour is the boat's at Tortuguero, not the flight's.

Who it is for

For anyone running the Central American Caribbean as a region rather than a sum of countries. Corn Island and Tortuguero share coastal culture, wildlife and the same way of arriving — separated by a border that on this coast is barely visible on the ground.

If your trip is about nature and the Caribbean, this route turns two trips into one.
