Private Jet from New York (Teterboro) to St Barths

1,481 nautical miles to St Maarten plus a 17-mile connection. Why your Teterboro departure time decides whether you sleep in St Barths or in St Maarten.

As on the Miami route, no jet lands at St Barths: the Gustaf III runway is 646 metres. The trip is two legs. But from New York there is an added factor that decides the itinerary, and it is not the price.

It is the longest route in our network

Leg Distance Type
Teterboro (TEB) → St Maarten (SXM) 1,481.4 NM · 2,744 km Jet
St Maarten (SXM) → St Barths (SBH) 17.3 NM · 32 km STOL

One thousand four hundred and eighty-one nautical miles. To place it: that is almost double the Miami–Punta Cana sector (791.7 NM), which until now topped the catalogue, and a hundred and forty-four times the shortest, St Maarten–Anguilla.

And then comes a seventeen-nautical-mile leg. That disproportion — from 1,481 to 17 — is the largest anywhere in our network.

Before confirming we check that the assigned aircraft accepts the destination field under that date’s forecast conditions.

The fact that decides your itinerary

Gustaf III operates daily between 7am and 15 minutes after sunset. In practice that places closing between roughly 6pm and 7pm depending on the time of year.

That is the real problem on this route, and it has nothing to do with money.

A fifteen-hundred-nautical-mile sector runs to several hours. Add entry formalities in St Maarten and coordination of the final leg, and a mid-afternoon Teterboro departure does not make it. The aircraft lands at SXM, the St Barths window has already closed, and you sleep in St Maarten.

This is not pessimism: it is schedule arithmetic. The consequence is that on this route your departure time is not a preference, it is an itinerary decision.

Plan timings and check pricing

Ground services at these fields are limited and vary by aerodrome and by hour.

How it is handled in practice

There are two ways, and neither is universally better.

Leave early. An early departure from Teterboro allows the final leg to be chained the same day with margin. It requires an early start and does not absorb accumulated delays.

Accept a night in St Maarten. If the diary does not allow an early departure, the stop stops being a setback and becomes part of the plan. St Maarten has full infrastructure and the final leg runs first thing the next morning.

What does not work is booking without deciding this. Which suits you depends on your diary and on the time of year, because sunset moves the available margin.

Which operator and aircraft cover the final leg: The final leg is covered by a local operator with aircraft approved for the field; we confirm operator and aircraft in the quote.

Immigration and customs

The long leg is international. The short one then crosses from Dutch to French territory. Departure and entry formalities vary by country and need lead time; we coordinate them with every passenger’s details.

Which New York-area airport

Teterboro is the usual private-aviation reference for the metropolitan area, but it is not the only option. The choice is ground logistics and operating hours. The aircraft may need to reposition to the departure aerodrome, and that leg forms part of the quote.

Frequently asked questions

Can you fly direct from New York to St Barths?

Not by jet. The Gustaf III runway is 646 metres. The trip is two legs: 1,481.4 nautical miles to St Maarten and 17.2 to St Barths.

What time does St Barths airport close?

It operates daily between 7am and 15 minutes after sunset, placing closing between roughly 6pm and 7pm depending on the time of year.

What happens if I leave Teterboro late?

The St Barths window will likely close before the aircraft reaches St Maarten. In that case the final leg runs the following morning.

Is this the longest route you operate?

Yes. At 1,481.4 nautical miles it is almost double Miami–Punta Cana and a hundred and forty-four times the shortest sector in the catalogue.

How much does a charter from New York (Teterboro) to St Barths cost?

Quoted per aircraft on request. It is two legs with different aircraft categories and the quote should be capable of being broken down.

Better to leave early or overnight in St Maarten?

It depends on your diary and the time of year, because sunset moves the margin. What does not work is booking without deciding.
