The question behind this one is never asked directly, and it should be: if the platform owned aircraft, whose would fly first?
Where the conflict would sit
A platform that operates its own fleet and also distributes other operators' has an obvious incentive on every request: fill its own aircraft first, pass on what is left.
You would have no way to audit that. You would see fewer requests and no explanation, and any explanation you were given would be unverifiable.
That is the structural reason the two roles sit badly together — not bad faith, just arithmetic that points one way. A platform that flies can behave impeccably and still leave you unable to prove it did, which over time is almost as corrosive.
What asset-light means here
We work with certificated operators and aircraft available in Central America; outside the region we coordinate on request.
No fleet means no aircraft to fill first. A request goes to whoever can do the flight, because there is no alternative that benefits us more. Drake Bay at 83.5 nautical miles and Tamarindo at 97.1 are jobs for whoever's aircraft fits, not for a fleet we are trying to keep busy.
The operator is paid the full flight at their usual rate: our intermediation is not deducted from what they charge.
What to check, in us and in anyone else
Do they operate aircraft? If yes, ask how requests are allocated when their own fleet could take the job. An answer that is not specific is an answer.
Do they hold exclusivity? A platform that does not fly but locks your calendar has recreated the same problem by contract.
And who owns the client relationship afterwards? If a passenger who flew with you can only rebook through the platform, the platform owns the client. If they can call you directly, you do.
This is the clause that costs the most and gets read the least. A channel that brings you a hundred first flights and keeps every one of them has not grown your business; it has rented you work.
Where we do compete with you
Two places, and it is fair to name them.
For the search result. Our pages rank for route queries, and if you build your own site we are competing for the same visitor. We recommend you build it anyway — over three years it is your most profitable channel, and an operator with two channels negotiates from a different place than one with ours only.
And for the passenger's first contact. Someone who finds us does not find you. That is what a distribution channel is; it is not a hidden cost, but it is not nothing either.
What asset-light does not mean
It does not mean we carry no risk or no obligations. We run scheduled private flights across Central America; any other destination worldwide is coordinated on request. Operators we bring on evidence current certification, insurance and fleet documentation before receiving a first assignment.
And it does not mean we are neutral about quality. A bad flight reaches us as a complaint and costs us the client too — which is the only alignment of interests worth relying on, because it does not depend on goodwill.
Frequently asked questions
Do you operate your own aircraft?
No. We work with certificated operators and aircraft available in Central America; outside the region we coordinate on request.
Why does owning a fleet create a conflict?
Because on every request there is an incentive to fill your own aircraft first, and the operator cannot audit it.
What should I ask a platform that does fly?
How requests are allocated when their own fleet could take the job. A vague answer is an answer.
Is exclusivity the same problem?
Effectively yes. A platform that locks your calendar has recreated it by contract.
Where do you compete with me?
For the search result and for the passenger's first contact. That is what a distribution channel is.
What is the costliest clause people skip?
Who owns the client afterwards. A channel that brings a hundred first flights and keeps them all has rented you work, not grown your business.
Who owns the client afterwards?
If the passenger can call you directly, you do. Check that before signing anywhere.
