How Much Does a Private Charter to Roatan Cost?

What drives the price of a private charter to Roatan (RTB): origin, aircraft, and why scheduled flights are real competition here. Prices from, per aircraft.

A private charter to Roatan (RTB) is quoted on request for the whole aircraft, not per passenger. Roatan is a different case from the rest of the catalogue: it is the one destination where scheduled flights are serious competition, and that changes the conversation about price.

Quoted per aircraft, not per seat

The fare covers the entire aircraft and does not vary with passenger count. With 4–12 seats, the cost per person depends on how many travel.

Variable 1: the origin

Origin Distance Note
La Ceiba (LCE) 39.4 NM · 73 km The natural mainland-island link
San Pedro Sula (SAP) 96.1 NM · 178 km More than double

La Ceiba is the classic mainland embarkation point for the Bay Islands. San Pedro Sula works for travellers entering the country there, but at more than twice the distance.

Variable 2: why the charter competes differently here

Almost every destination in this catalogue shares one thing: it is hard to reach. Drake Bay has no road, Tortuguero needs a boat, San Blas depends on the comarca. In those cases the charter competes against inconvenience.

Roatan does not. Juan Manuel Gálvez is an international airport that handled 550,422 passengers in 2023 and takes direct flights from North America. Getting to Roatan is easy.

So why charter? For the schedule, not for the access. The real cases are these:

  1. Connections that do not line up. Your international flight lands at La Ceiba or San Pedro Sula at an hour that misses the scheduled service to Roatan, and waiting costs half a day or a hotel night.
  2. Groups. With 4–12 seats hired per aircraft, a party of six splits the fare and gains schedule freedom on top.
  3. Leaving the country with margin. In the reverse direction, timing the return against an international flight that tolerates no delay.

If your scheduled flight fits your itinerary well and you are travelling as a pair, you probably do not need a charter to Roatan. We say so because we would rather hear from the travellers who do.

Variable 3: the aircraft, with an advantage

Both ends — Golosón and Juan Manuel Gálvez — are airports with full infrastructure and long runways: Golosón's measures 2,950 by 45 metres. Neither is a short, strictly visual strip.

That widens the range of available aircraft and gives more room to match the aeroplane to the actual group, as at Manuel Antonio and unlike the remote destinations.

Aircraft assigned on confirmation · 4–12 seats · baggage confirmed at booking by weight and volume

Variable 4: dive equipment

Roatan is lived underwater. Regulators, suits, underwater cameras and, in some cases, tanks must be declared at booking because they affect the weight calculation.

And a planning point rather than a price one: dive safety practice calls for a surface interval between the last dive and flying. Check it with your dive centre and set the return time accordingly.

Empty legs

It is one of the busiest routes in the archipelago, which generates repositioning sectors relatively often. We work with empty legs: they arise from operations already confirmed, are listed at short notice and are not guaranteed. Ask us what is available that day.

On confirmed closures: Several fields in the network operate in daylight and visual conditions, and close when the weather does not allow it.

What the fare does not include

It covers the flight. We do not quote third-party services: hotels, dives, equipment rental or transfers on the island.
