A private charter from La Ceiba (LCE) to Roatan (RTB) covers 39 nautical miles of Caribbean in roughly 21 minutes. It is the busiest mainland-to-island link in Honduras and the direct alternative to the ferry. Quoted per aircraft on request.

Thirty-nine nautical miles of open water
Roatan is the largest of the Bay Islands, lying about fifty kilometres off the northern coast of Honduras. It is the country's best-known dive destination, and with more than half a million passengers a year its airport is among the busiest in Honduras.
La Ceiba is the mainland embarkation point. From there the options are two: the ferry, which makes the crossing in a little over an hour and depends on sea state, or the flight, which settles it in minutes.
The difference is not only time. The Caribbean between the mainland and the islands can get uncomfortable, particularly between November and February, and the ferry crossing has a reputation among regular travellers for reasons that are not always pleasant. Flying removes that variable entirely.

Two airports with full infrastructure
Operationally this is one of the most straightforward routes in the whole Central American network, because both ends are international airports with long runways.
Golosón (LCE): a military and public airport operated by EHISA, on the western side of La Ceiba in Atlántida Department. Elevation 49 feet and a single asphalt runway of 2,950 by 45 metres. It also receives international flights.
Juan Manuel Gálvez (RTB): an international airport on Roatan island, operated by EHISA, at 20 feet above sea level. It handled 550,422 passengers in 2023, placing it among the country's principal fields.
In practice that means these are not short, strictly visual strips like those in Guanacaste or Osa. The operating window is wider and predictability is higher.
On confirmed weather-related closures: Several fields in the network operate in daylight and visual conditions, and close when the weather does not allow it.
Aircraft and baggage
Aircraft assigned on confirmation, 4–12 seats, baggage confirmed at booking by weight and volume.
Dive equipment is the characteristic oversized load on this route. Roatan is lived underwater, and a significant share of passengers travel with their own kit: regulators, suits, underwater cameras and, in some cases, tanks. All of it must be declared at booking, because it affects the weight calculation.
One useful note: standard dive safety practice calls for a surface interval between your last dive and flying. It is worth planning your return around that rather than discovering it at the airport — confirm the interval with your dive centre.
Connections within the Bay Islands
From Roatan we operate to Utila and Guanaja, which allows the archipelago to be covered without returning to the mainland. Direct routes also run from La Ceiba to Utila and Guanaja.
Frequently asked questions
How long is the flight from La Ceiba to Roatan?
Roughly 21 minutes across 39.4 nautical miles of open water.
How much does a private charter from La Ceiba to Roatan cost?
Quoted per aircraft on request, not per passenger. Send us the date and the group and we confirm in writing.
Is the ferry or the flight better?
The ferry makes the crossing in a little over an hour and depends on sea state, which between November and February can be demanding. The flight removes that variable.
Can I bring dive equipment?
Yes, if declared at booking. Regulators, suits, cameras and tanks affect the weight calculation. Baggage confirmed at booking by weight and volume
How long should I wait between diving and flying?
Standard dive safety practice calls for a surface interval between your last dive and flying. Confirm it with your dive centre and plan your return accordingly.
Does Roatan have an international airport?
Yes. Juan Manuel Gálvez is an international airport that handled more than 550,000 passengers in 2023.
