Sixty point three nautical miles south. Unlike the cayes, where we almost always recommend the water taxi, here the flight replaces something real: a long road. Quoted per aircraft on request.

The difference from the cayes
On this site we say openly that San Pedro–Caye Caulker rarely deserves a flight: eleven nautical miles with a regular water taxi, where the transfers to each aerodrome run longer than the air.
Placencia is different. It is on the mainland, to the south, and the alternative is not a twenty-minute boat: it is the road, a long run through the interior of the country.
Here the flight is not competing against a comfortable launch. It is competing against half a day of driving, and it wins comfortably.
We confirm prior apron coordination with the field in the quote, because it changes with the date and the operation.
The apron requires coordination in advance
This is the operational detail that sets Placencia apart, and worth knowing before you ask for a specific time.
The field requires apron coordination with Tropic Air or Maya Island Air, which operate the scheduled traffic. It is not a formality of ours that we can accelerate: it is an arrangement with third parties that takes its own time.
The practical consequence: Placencia is not a destination for improvising on the day. We flag it on our last-minute page as one of the fields where that option simply does not exist.
We confirm prior apron coordination with the field in the quote, because it changes with the date and the operation.
Which Belize City airport
The city has two fields and the difference towards Placencia is six tenths of a nautical mile: irrelevant in the air.
Goldson (BZE) is the international. If you arrive on a long-haul flight and connect the same day, departing from there saves a transfer with luggage.
Belize Municipal (TZA) is in the city and is the usual general-aviation field.
As with San José and Tobías Bolaños, the choice is ground logistics, not flight time. The aircraft may need to reposition to the departure aerodrome, and that leg forms part of the quote.
From the cayes
If your trip starts on Ambergris, San Pedro–Placencia is 85.7 nautical miles: twenty-five more than from the mainland, and without dropping down to Belize City first.
It is the kind of leg where the charter returns most: it avoids a detour that by scheduled service would need two segments and a wait.
When it does not earn its place
If you have time and want to see the country, the road south crosses an area many people enjoy, and a rental car is considerably cheaper.
The flight buys days, not comfort. On a two-week trip, half a day of driving is half a day out of twenty-eight. On a five-day trip, it is a tenth of the whole thing.
