A private charter from Liberia (LIR) to Drake Bay (DRK) covers 159 nautical miles in roughly 75 minutes. It is one of the longest legs in Costa Rica's domestic network and the most sensible way to reach the Osa Peninsula from Guanacaste inside a morning. Priced from 2,695 USD per aircraft.

Osa is not far. It is cut off.
Drake Bay sits in Osa Canton, Puntarenas Province, at the southwestern corner of the country. It is the gateway to Corcovado National Park, the largest stretch of lowland tropical rainforest on the Pacific side of Central America and one of the most cited nature destinations on the continent.
Distance from Guanacaste is not the real obstacle. The obstacle is that Agujitas de Drake has no conventional road connection from the north. The usual overland approach means driving to Sierpe and continuing by boat down the Sierpe River to the coast — a leg that is genuinely part of the destination's appeal, but that consumes a full day when you start in Guanacaste, and that depends on river conditions and tide.
A direct flight from Liberia collapses that into a single stage. For a traveller giving Corcovado three or four nights, the difference between arriving mid-morning and arriving at dusk the following day is one lodge night and one complete wildlife outing.

Bahía Drake Airport (DRK)
This is a public airport administered by Costa Rica's Directorate General of Civil Aviation, on the coast two and a half miles northeast of Agujitas, the main village in the area, at just 26 feet above sea level.
It is a remote-destination strip in every sense: daytime, visual, and set in rainforest that shapes the local weather sharply. Osa records some of the highest rainfall figures in the country. This is precisely the route where information about weather closures matters most to a passenger, which is why we do not publish it without operational confirmation: Several fields in the network operate in daylight and visual conditions, and close when the weather does not allow it.
Lodges in the area are spread along the coast between Agujitas and the Corcovado boundary. Many arrange pickup at the strip; tell us your property at booking so we can verify it before the flight.
Aircraft and flight considerations
Cessna 206, 4 seats, baggage hold 40 cu ft.
Unlike the short Guanacaste hops, this is a medium-length leg running most of the length of the country down the Pacific coast. On clear days the track passes over the central coastline and the mouth of the Sierpe before the final approach, which in practice makes it the most scenic flight in the network.
Because it is a long leg into a remote field, lead time matters more here than elsewhere: aircraft availability and crews current on the strip are tighter in high season.
Connections from Osa
From Drake Bay we operate to Puerto Jiménez on the far side of the Golfo Dulce, and to Quepos / Manuel Antonio. For itineraries pairing volcano and rainforest, La Fortuna to Drake Bay avoids backtracking through the Central Valley.
Frequently asked questions
How long is the flight from Liberia to Drake Bay?
Roughly 75 minutes across 159 nautical miles, one of the longest legs in the Costa Rican domestic network.
How much does a private flight to Drake Bay cost?
From 2,695 USD for the whole aircraft. As a long domestic leg, it prices above the Guanacaste hops.
Can you drive to Drake Bay?
There is no conventional direct road access from the north of the country. The usual overland route combines a drive to Sierpe with a boat down the Sierpe River to the coast.
What is the best way to reach Corcovado?
Drake Bay and Puerto Jiménez are the two main access points. Drake serves the northern sector, including the San Pedrillo ranger station, generally reached by boat from Agujitas.
When does the Drake Bay airstrip close?
Several fields in the network operate in daylight and visual conditions, and close when the weather does not allow it.
How far ahead should I book?
Further ahead than for any other domestic route. In high season, aircraft and current crews for remote fields are committed earlier.
