A private charter from Liberia (LIR) to Nosara (NOB) covers 38 nautical miles in roughly 25 minutes. It replaces a about 3 hours drive across the Nicoya Peninsula, one of the slowest road transfers in Guanacaste. Priced from 1,295 USD per aircraft.

The road is the whole argument
Nosara is 43 miles from Liberia in a straight line, but the geography of the Nicoya Peninsula does not allow a straight line. The road route runs inland, through Nicoya town, then back out toward the coast on a mix of paved and unpaved surface depending on the section and the season.
Regular visitors know this drive well, and it comes up in almost every conversation about the town. Nosara grew around surf and yoga precisely because its isolation kept large-scale development away. That isolation carries a logistics cost, and the flight is how you pay it in minutes rather than hours.
Through the green season, roughly May to November, the unpaved sections degrade and drive times stretch unpredictably. On a seven-day retreat, losing a full day to travel at either end is hard to justify.

Nosara Airport (NOB)
Nosara has a public airport administered by Costa Rica's Directorate General of Civil Aviation, sitting about two miles inland from the coast at 33 feet above sea level. From the strip to Playa Guiones — the centre of the surf scene and most of the lodging — is roughly fifteen minutes by road.
Two technical details are worth knowing. Runway 04 carries a 125-metre displaced threshold, and there is low mountainous terrain north of the field and through the arc from east to south. Neither is an obstacle in itself; the airport takes scheduled service from San José and Liberia. But together they explain why operations here are strictly daytime and visual, and why the aircraft on this route is chosen for short-field capability.
On weather-related closures at this specific strip: Several fields in the network operate in daylight and visual conditions, and close when the weather does not allow it.
Aircraft and baggage
Cessna 206, 4 seats, baggage policy baggage hold 40 cu ft.
The most common question on this particular route is about surfboards. Nosara runs on surf, and a good share of the people flying in bring their own equipment. Boards travel, but not automatically: length and quantity affect which aircraft is assigned, and they need to be declared at booking rather than at the counter. A party of four with four longboards does not fill the same aeroplane as a party of four with suitcases.
When it makes sense, and when it doesn't
Travelling solo or as a couple, packing light, with a 4x4 rented for the whole stay and a taste for driving Nicoya — the road is a legitimate choice and part of the experience for plenty of people.
The flight takes over when the group is four or more, when the international arrival into Liberia lands in the afternoon, when small children are involved, or when the stay is short. It also wins when the itinerary chains Nosara to somewhere else: from NOB we fly direct to Santa Teresa and Tamarindo without backtracking to Liberia.
