One hundred point seven nautical miles to the head of the Golfo Dulce. And it is one of the few routes in the catalogue where asking for the bigger aircraft is not the more expensive choice. From 1,595 USD per aircraft.

The King Air costs less than the Caravan
This is the route's commercial finding, and it runs against intuition.
The Cessna Caravan carries twelve passengers; the King Air, seven. The bigger one should cost more, and across most of the catalogue it does.
Not here. On San José–Golfito, and on eleven other routes in the country, the King Air is priced below the Caravan. We show a "from" price per route; the final fare depends on the date, the group and the baggage, and is confirmed in writing before booking.
The consequence is direct: if there are seven or fewer of you, ask for the King Air. It is faster, it is pressurised, and on this route it costs less than the Caravan.
The eleven routes where this happens have something in common: they are the long departures from the Central Valley — Golfito, Puerto Jiménez, Drake Bay, Nosara, Limón, Upala. On short legs the relationship inverts. The specific aircraft is assigned on confirmation, based on passenger count, baggage and the destination field.

A narrow valley, not a short runway
Fourteen hundred metres by twenty wide: the field does not restrict by size.
What defines Golfito is the terrain. The runway runs along a narrow valley, with high ground on both sides and immediately northwest of the threshold. The surrounding terrain shapes the approach and, with it, which aircraft can work the field.
That does not prevent operating, but it conditions weather minima more than the length suggests. It is the opposite of Drake Bay: there the width governs, here what governs is what surrounds it.
Golfito and Puerto Jiménez: ten nautical miles
GLF–PJM: 10.0 nautical miles. They face each other across the Golfo Dulce.
Overland it is hours: you have to go round the whole head of the gulf. By water there is a regular boat, which for many travellers is the natural connection.
If the Osa Peninsula is your destination, Puerto Jiménez is the field. Golfito serves the mainland side: the marina, the sport fishing and access to southern Puntarenas.
And Drake Bay is one hop away
GLF–DRK is 27.5 nautical miles, and Golfito does not restrict the aircraft.
That makes it a third way into Drake, alongside Quepos and Puerto Jiménez. With a large group, arriving via Golfito and continuing by water is a real option the catalogue had not recorded.
