Let us start with the fact almost no search returns clearly: Granada has no airport. Neither commercial nor general aviation. This page explains what that means in practice.
The airport is Managua
Augusto C. Sandino (MGA) is about thirty-three kilometres from Granada in a straight line, and roughly forty-four by road. The drive is around forty-five minutes.
It is a main highway and the transfer is simple. There is also frequent bus service between the two cities.
Put another way: to reach Granada you fly to Managua and drive. There is no aerial alternative that shortens that, and any offer of a direct flight to Granada should make you suspicious.
What it means for your trip
If you are looking for a charter to Granada, the answer is that no such route exists. What does exist is a flight to Managua, and from there a ground transfer we do not operate. Ground transfer is not included in the fare: your accommodation or a local operator arranges it.
And here it is worth being direct: if your international flight already lands in Managua, you need nothing else. The forty-five minutes of road are part of the trip, exactly as they are at Papagayo from Liberia.
When a private flight does enter the equation
Not for the last leg, but for the one before it.
From Costa Rica. San José is 173.2 nautical miles from Managua and Liberia 99.9. Overland you have to cross Peñas Blancas, and that crossing keeps its own pace. A private international flight to Managua replaces the land crossing, not the transfer to Granada. Departure and entry formalities vary by country and need lead time; we coordinate them with every passenger’s details.
Chaining with the coast. Costa Esmeralda — which serves San Juan del Sur — is 43.6 nautical miles from Managua. An itinerary combining Granada with the southern Pacific can be solved by air between those two points.
From Honduras. Tegucigalpa is 130.6 nautical miles away and San Pedro Sula 223.6.
The comparison that does matter
It is not plane against car for the last forty-four kilometres. It is which way you enter Nicaragua.
If you arrive on a commercial flight to Managua, it is already solved. If you come from Costa Rica and your plan is Granada plus coast, the private flight earns its place on the international legs and between destinations, not on the final access.
It is the same structure we explain on private flights from Managua: one domestic destination and everything else crossing a border.
Why this page exists
Because the catalogue linked to a route towards Granada that cannot exist, and we would rather say so than publish a flight page for a destination with no airstrip.
It is what we do at Papagayo, at Santa Teresa and at San Juan del Sur: the airport serving a place is not always in that place, and that distinction changes the planning more than any fare.
