How it works

Insurance on a charter flight

Two different policies are involved and neither is the one you buy for your trip. What the operator's cover does, what your own travel insurance may exclude.

Three different things get called "the insurance" in a charter conversation, and they cover different people. The operator's policy protects the aircraft and its liability to passengers. Your travel policy protects your trip. Neither one automatically covers the other's job. AeroRide sells flights, not insurance: confirm cover with your insurer.

What the operator carries

Hull cover, which insures the aircraft itself. It matters to the operator and the financier, not to you.

Passenger liability cover, which is the part that concerns you: the operator's liability towards the people on board, up to defined limits.

And third-party liability, for damage on the ground.

The limits are a number, not a philosophy. Ask what they are for your flight, in writing, and who the insured operator is. The activity is booked with and run by the local operator; we only fly you there.

What it does not do

It is not your travel insurance. Cancellation, medical treatment, evacuation and lost luggage belong to a policy you buy, not to the operator.

It does not follow you off the aircraft. The transfer, the hotel and the tour are outside it.

And it is not sold by us. We arrange flights; we do not sell insurance, and we will not pretend the operator's cover replaces yours.

What your own policy may exclude

Flights on aircraft that are not scheduled airlines appear as an exclusion in some travel policies, usually worded around non-commercial or private aviation.

Read that clause before you travel, not after, because it is the difference between a covered trip and an argument.

Adventure activities are a separate exclusion list, and the one people discover late.

If the policy is unclear, ask the insurer in writing. A broker's opinion, ours included, is not cover.

The four questions worth asking

Who is the operator and what are their passenger liability limits?

Can I have a certificate of insurance for this flight? A legitimate operator produces one without drama.

Does my travel policy exclude private aviation?

And what happens to my costs if the flight cannot depart? That is a commercial question rather than an insurance one, and it belongs in the booking terms.

Where the two policies meet

A weather diversion is the common case. The flight is safe and legal, the night in a different town is yours, and that cost sits with your travel policy rather than with the operator.

A missed international connection is the expensive case, and the reason we build margin into the return sector rather than the outbound one.

Neither situation is improved by a larger liability limit, which is why the questions above are about different things: one protects you on board, the other protects the trip around the flight.

What we do

We verify the operator's cover exists and is current before confirming a booking, as part of the same check that covers the certificate.

We pass the certificate on when you ask for it.

And we tell you plainly that our role ends at the aircraft. Everything else on your trip needs your own policy.

Frequently asked questions

Does the operator's insurance cover my trip?

No. It covers the aircraft and the operator's liability to passengers. Cancellation, medical care and luggage belong to your own travel policy.

Can I see proof of insurance?

Yes. Ask for a certificate of insurance for your flight; a legitimate operator provides one without difficulty.

Do travel policies cover private flights?

Some exclude non-scheduled or private aviation. Read the clause before travelling and ask your insurer in writing if it is unclear.

Do you sell insurance?

No. We arrange flights. We will not present the operator's cover as a substitute for your own policy.

What are typical liability limits?

They vary by operator and aircraft. Ask for the figure that applies to your flight rather than accepting a general reassurance.

What if the flight cannot depart?

That is a commercial question answered by the booking terms, not by the insurance policy.
