How it works

On board: food, Wi-Fi and the cabin

Regional charter is a short, functional flight rather than a lounge in the sky. What exists on board, what does not, and the four things worth bringing yourself.

The images that sell private aviation show wide leather seats, a steward and a table set for dinner. That is a large jet on a long flight. Regional charter here is a short, functional trip in a small aircraft, and knowing that in advance is what makes it a good experience rather than a surprising one.

Wi-Fi, honestly

There is no onboard Wi-Fi on the aircraft we fly. Connectivity of that kind belongs to larger jets, and it would be dishonest to imply otherwise.

Mobile coverage varies and is not something to plan around, and devices follow the crew's instructions as on any flight.

The practical answer for a working trip: download what you need before boarding and treat the sector as offline time. On San José to Liberia, 86.9 nautical miles, or Guatemala City to San Salvador at 109.7, that is a short gap.

Food and drink

There is no galley and no cabin service on a light or medium turboprop. Nobody is going to cook.

At the main airports we can arrange catering through the handler: cold boxes, sandwiches, fruit, water, ordered in advance and loaded before you arrive.

At a regional strip, bring it with you. There is often nowhere to buy anything, and on a hot afternoon water matters more than food. The allowance is calculated by weight when you quote in the app; tell us if you carry bulky gear.

What the cabin is actually like

Smaller than you imagine and closer to the crew. On several types you are within arm's reach of the cockpit, which most passengers end up enjoying.

Noisier than an airliner. Headsets or earplugs are normal; we can ask the operator to have them on board.

Warm before departure and cool in the air, because a parked aircraft in the sun heats up and there is no air conditioning on the ground on every type. The specific aircraft is assigned on confirmation, based on passenger count, baggage and the destination field.

And a toilet only on some aircraft. On sectors like San José to Drake Bay, 83.5 nautical miles, it is a short enough flight that it rarely matters, but ask if it does for your group.

The four things worth bringing

Water, especially in the dry-season afternoons.

Ear protection, if you are sensitive to noise or travelling with children.

A jacket or layer, because the cabin temperature changes with altitude more than you expect.

And anything a passenger needs within reach, since bags stowed in the nose or pod are not accessible in flight.

What is genuinely better than an airline

The time. No queue, no gate, minutes from arrival to departure.

The view. Low-level flight over this landscape is the part people talk about afterwards.

The quiet of a private cabin, in the sense that it is your group and nobody else, which on a working trip is worth more than a meal service.

And the flexibility to talk, which is why business groups book these sectors at all.

Frequently asked questions

Is there Wi-Fi on board?

No. Onboard Wi-Fi belongs to larger jets. Download what you need before boarding and treat the sector as offline time.

Is there food on the flight?

There is no galley or cabin service. At main airports we can arrange catering through the handler; at regional strips, bring what you want with you.

How noisy is it?

Noisier than an airliner. Headsets or earplugs are normal and we can ask the operator to have them on board.

Is there a toilet?

Only on some aircraft. Sectors are short, but tell us if it matters for your group and we will factor it into the aircraft.

Will the cabin be hot?

A parked aircraft in the sun gets warm, and not every type has air conditioning on the ground. It cools in the climb.

Can I reach my bag in flight?

Not if it is stowed in the nose or an external pod. Keep what you need with you in the cabin.
