Guanacaste is where the sums need most care, because Liberia takes direct international flights and that changes the whole arithmetic.
If your intercontinental lands at Liberia, you are already inside the province. An additional domestic flight has to justify itself against a short road, not against five hours from San José.

From Liberia these are short road journeys in most cases, on roads that are mostly good. The flight competes badly.
From San José the sum is different, and there it usually wins.
When the flight does pay from Liberia
Three specific cases:
When the final road is poor. The approach to Nosara has gravel sections that deteriorate in the rains, with fords that can become impassable. Part of the access road is gravel and its condition worsens in the rainy season. In the green season, that last hour is what the flight buys.
When the resort has its own strip. Punta Islita is hemmed in by terrain and its field has particular characteristics. We confirm the field owner’s authorisation in the quote, because it changes with the date and the operation. Arriving by air is sometimes the only comfortable way, and Nicoya at 17.5 nautical miles gives a plan B if the Islita field is not operating that day.
And with a large group and baggage. Ten people with boards in two 4x4s on gravel is a whole morning, and they arrive split between two vehicles with the gear divided among them.
When it does not pay, and we say so
If you are going to a Papagayo-area resort and landing at Liberia, the road transfer is short and good.
A fifteen-minute flight with transfers at both ends does not save real time: between reaching the departure airstrip, waiting, flying and transferring again at the far end, more is consumed than gained.
And if you are touring Guanacaste, you need a car anyway. Flying and hiring there solves the same thing, but only pays if the rental runs several days.
We say it before quoting, not after. A flight that solves nothing costs you money and costs us credibility.
The final transfer, always
None of these strips is inside the resort. The transfer from the airfield is arranged by your accommodation and is not in our fare. Ground transfer is not included in the fare: your accommodation or a local operator arranges it.
At the large resorts it is usually included and it is a matter of giving notice of the time. At the small ones and the private villas, not always, and it is worth confirming in writing. The specific aircraft is assigned on confirmation, based on passenger count, baggage and the destination field.
