The price of a flight to Golfito depends on three things, and only one of them is distance. Here are all three. From 1,495 USD per aircraft.
First: you pay for the aircraft, not the seat
You are not buying seats: you are chartering the whole aeroplane.
That means the price does not rise as you add passengers while they fit. Two people and four in a Cessna 206 pay the same.
And it means the reverse too: travelling alone makes nothing cheaper.
Where the model pays is with a group. Divide the price among the passengers and compare it with the tickets you will not buy, plus the time you will not lose. We show a "from" price per route; the final fare depends on the date, the group and the baggage, and is confirmed in writing before booking.
The five categories, and this route's finding
| Aircraft | PAX | From SJO | From Pavas |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cessna 206 | 1–4 | 1,595 USD | 1,495 USD |
| Piper Seneca | 1–5 | 2,295 USD | 2,195 USD |
| Piper Navajo | 1–6 | 2,995 USD | 2,895 USD |
| Cessna Caravan | 1–12 | 5,295 USD | 5,195 USD |
| King Air | 1–7 | 4,395 USD | 4,250 USD |
And here is what almost nobody expects: on this route the King Air is priced below the Caravan.
The Caravan carries twelve passengers and the King Air seven. The larger one should cost more, and across most of the catalogue it does. Not here.
The consequence is direct: if you are seven or fewer, ask for the King Air. It is faster, pressurised, and on this route it costs less.
It happens on twelve routes in the country, all long departures from the Central Valley. On short legs the relationship inverts. The specific aircraft is assigned on confirmation, based on passenger count, baggage and the destination field.

Second: which field you leave from
Pavas is 4.1 nautical miles closer to Golfito than Juan Santamaría, and that shows in the fare.
But if you arrive on an intercontinental flight you land at Santamaría, and transferring to Pavas is about twenty minutes across the city. Four nautical miles of flying do not offset twenty minutes by car.
Ask for both and decide with the figures in front of you.
Third: what is not included
The price covers the aircraft and its operation. It does not cover what happens before or after:
The transfer from the airport to your accommodation, which at Golfito is short but real.
And the boat to Puerto Jiménez if your destination is the Osa Peninsula. Golfito is 10.0 nautical miles from Puerto Jiménez, but by water, and we do not operate that service.
If you are heading to Osa, ask about Puerto Jiménez direct as well: it may work out better.
And one thing that does not raise the price but does condition it
Golfito does not restrict by runway size — fourteen hundred metres by twenty — but it runs along a narrow valley with high ground on both sides. The surrounding terrain shapes the approach and, with it, which aircraft can work the field.
That does not change the price. It changes the chance of the day cooperating, so allow margin in the date.
