The Pacific chain, complete
With this route, the catalogue covers the Costa Rican coast north to south without gaps.
| Leg | Distance |
|---|---|
| Tambor – Quepos | 55.3 NM |
| Quepos – Puerto Jiménez | 73.3 NM |
| Puerto Jiménez – Drake Bay | 23.0 NM |
Two hundred nautical miles in three hops, none of them long. And the overland alternative is the Costanera Sur, which works but follows every kilometre of coast.
For a trip with time, that road is one of the good drives in the country. For a trip with dates, it is three days that could be three flights.
The specific aircraft is assigned on confirmation, based on passenger count, baggage and the destination field.
And why the order matters
Here is what this route adds that neither of the other two said.
Quepos is 33.4 nautical miles from San José. Puerto Jiménez, 102.6. In other words: starting in the north and finishing in Osa leaves the furthest point for last, exactly when you have to leave the country again.
The reverse sequence — Osa first, Quepos after — cuts the final leg to a third. If your international flight leaves from San José, the difference is nearly seventy nautical miles on the worst day to have them.
It is the same reasoning we apply in Honduras with San Pedro Sula. The geography changes, the rule does not.
It is worth looking at before booking the hotels, because afterwards it cannot be changed without redoing everything.
Drake Bay is a short hop, but it changes the aircraft
Twenty-three nautical miles separate Puerto Jiménez from Drake Bay, and they are two different products.
Puerto Jiménez restricts nothing. Drake Bay measures 1,000 × 18 m, generous for the catalogue's categories.
With a large group, the workable route is flying to Puerto Jiménez and covering the rest overland. The specific aircraft is assigned on confirmation, based on passenger count, baggage and the destination field.
Corcovado is arranged in advance
The park requires a certified guide and entry quotas are coordinated in advance. We do not handle it. Access requires an authorisation handled by the area’s administration or your local operator, on their own timescales.
And from the airport to the gulf lodges there is a transfer we do not operate either. Ground transfer is not included in the fare: your accommodation or a local operator arranges it.
Added together, it is the usual Osa pattern: the flight is the predictable part of the day.
That is why we ask for the transfer time before fixing the flight time. At a destination with two links we do not operate, starting with ours is starting at the end.
