Private Flights from Flores

The origin for Tikal. From the Petén, Guatemala's longest runway and four destinations, three of them crossing a border.

It is the origin for Tikal, and it has a surprising property: Guatemala's longest runway is here, in the middle of the Petén jungle. On request per aircraft.

The destinations, by distance

Destination Distance Type
Placencia, Belize 89.4 NM International
Belize City 96.9 NM International
Belize Municipal 102.4 NM International
San Pedro, Ambergris 124.1 NM International
Guatemala City 145.1 NM Domestic

The furthest destination is the simplest

It is the cleanest inversion in the catalogue, and it defines this whole origin.

Guatemala City is 145.1 nautical miles away: the furthest destination. And it is the only domestic one, with no exit and entry formalities, and room to move it on the day.

Belize City is 96.9 away — fifty fewer — and considerably more complex because it crosses a border. Departure and entry formalities vary by country and need lead time; we coordinate them with every passenger’s details.

Fourth place in the corpus where this pattern appears, and the most pronounced: from here, the nearer the destination, the more paperwork it carries.

A runway that restricts nothing

Mundo Maya is Guatemala's second airport by traffic and has the country's longest runway, despite sitting surrounded by jungle.

For your booking that means the aircraft is decided solely by your group and your baggage, not by the terrain. That is unusual in this catalogue, where Punta Islita imposes eight metres of width and Guanaja eighteen. The specific aircraft is assigned on confirmation, based on passenger count, baggage and the destination field.

A documentation note: the ICAO identifier changed from MGTK to MGMM in 2012, and references using the old code are still circulating.

Flores is the gateway, Tikal is the destination

Almost nobody travels to the Petén for Flores. People travel for Tikal, and from the airport to the park there is a road journey we do not operate. From the aerodrome to the archaeological site there is a road leg arranged by your local operator.

Added up in both directions, it is the part of the day most people underestimate. Hence the recommendation we give on every page for this destination: staying a night in Flores rather than returning the same day removes the time pressure.

Four doors into Belize

Three of the five destinations are in Belize, and they are worth distinguishing.

Placencia (89.4 NM) is the nearest and sits in southern Belize. Belize City has two fields: Goldson at 96.9 and the municipal at 102.4. San Pedro (124.1 NM) is the caye.

All of them cross a border. If your trip combines Tikal with the reef, this is the direct way; if it passes through Guatemala City anyway, check whether the domestic leg first suits you better.

Worth noting for planning: the two Belize City fields differ by 5.5 nautical miles here, which is negligible on a ninety-mile sector. Unlike the short hops out of Belize itself, the choice between them is pure ground logistics.
