Business Travel in El Salvador

A compact, dollarised economy run from one capital, with the shortest internal distances in the region. Where the work is, what to carry, and why San Salvador works as a regional base.

Business travel in El Salvador has two features that set it apart in the region. The economy is dollarised, which removes a currency layer from every contract and invoice, and the country is small enough that internal travel is almost never the problem.

Where the work is

San Salvador holds the ministries, banks, regulators and head offices, concentrated in the western districts and the neighbouring municipalities where most business hotels sit.

The free trade zones around the capital handle textiles and light manufacturing, and bring most sourcing visitors.

Acajutla, on the Pacific, is the main port, with the logistics operations attached.

And agriculture — coffee on the western highlands, sugar on the plains — which means short drives rather than long ones.

What works well

The distances. The furthest business visit most people make is a couple of hours by road.

The currency. Working in US dollars simplifies budgets and expense claims for many visitors.

And the airport. The international airport has good regional connections, and the transfer to the capital takes around forty-five minutes to an hour depending on traffic.

What to prepare

Carry identification at all times. Current advisories recommend it, and checkpoints are common under the emergency measures in place. We check travel advisories before confirming each route and tell you if they change.

Check your company's travel policy before booking. Advisory levels differ by government and change, and some corporate policies still apply their own rules to the region. AeroRide invoices and charges directly from the site; you receive your receipt in the name of the person or company you give us on confirmation.

And allow for traffic. The capital's peak hours are the one thing that can make a short distance long.

What goes wrong

Arrival timing. A late landing plus the drive from the coast into the capital at rush hour is the common friction point, and it is planable.

Assuming everything is walkable. The business districts are spread out; meetings across town need a car.

And forgetting identification for a drive to a plant or a port, where checkpoints are likely.

Where a sector is justified

Not inside the country. Every business destination in El Salvador is a short drive, and we would rather say that than quote you a sector you do not need.

For a regional week, San Salvador is a genuine hub. Private flights leave from Ilopango, inside the capital and 16,0 nautical miles from the international airport. From there, Guatemala City is 97,5 nautical miles, Tegucigalpa 113,0, San Pedro Sula 126,1 and Managua 196,4. We show a "from" price per route; the final fare depends on the date, the group and the baggage, and is confirmed in writing before booking. The specific aircraft is assigned on confirmation, based on passenger count, baggage and the destination field.

That is what makes a four-country week realistic, with the capital as base and a morning sector to each neighbour.

Practical security

Arranged transport rather than street taxis or buses, which is standard corporate practice.

Hotels in the established business districts rather than improvised bookings.

Daylight movement between cities, and asking your local counterpart about specific areas rather than about the country.

Before you go

Who approves the trip, and what documentation procurement needs.

Whether your destination fields operate at your hours, since several regional strips are daylight-only.

And the return leg, built around the international departure rather than the last meeting.
