In most countries, ten days means seeing more of the same place. In El Salvador, a week already covers the best of the country, so the extra three days force a more interesting decision: go deep into the east, or add a second country.
Both are good answers. Which one fits depends on what you want the trip to be.
Route one: the whole country
Days one and two: the coast. Land on the Pacific and settle into El Tunco or El Zonte.
Days three and four: the Ruta de las Flores, timed for a weekend at Juayúa.
Day five: the Santa Ana volcano and Lake Coatepeque.
Days six and seven: Suchitoto, with Joya de Cerén on the way.
Days eight and nine: the east — Perquín and the Morazán mountains, or the Bay of Jiquilisco for mangroves and turtle beaches.
Day ten: back to the airport and fly.
This is the deepest version of El Salvador, and the only one that reaches the east properly.
Route two: El Salvador and Guatemala
Days one to six in El Salvador: the coast, the Ruta de las Flores, the volcano and Suchitoto.
Days seven to ten in Antigua, with Guatemala City 109,7 nautical miles from the international airport.
It pairs El Salvador's coast and small towns with Guatemala's great colonial city, and a short sector replaces a long border day. We show a "from" price per route; the final fare depends on the date, the group and the baggage, and is confirmed in writing before booking.
Route three: El Salvador and Roatán
Days one to six in El Salvador, then four days on Roatán, 226,8 nautical miles away.
Highlands, volcanoes and surf, then a Caribbean reef: the contrast route, and the one couples and divers remember.
The Maya variation
Joya de Cerén in El Salvador, Copán via San Pedro Sula at 137,6 nautical miles, and Tikal via Flores at 213,7. Three countries and the Maya world from a buried village to a temple city.
It is ambitious for ten days, and it works best with two sectors rather than overland transfers. The specific aircraft is assigned on confirmation, based on passenger count, baggage and the destination field.
What still does not fit
The east and a second country together. Ten days can hold one or the other; both make a timetable.
And too many bases. Four or five bases in ten days is the limit for a trip that still feels like a holiday.
Where a sector is justified
Nowhere inside El Salvador. Every leg of route one is a road.
For routes two and three and the Maya variation, the sector is what makes the trip possible in the time. Private flights leave from Ilopango, inside San Salvador and 16,0 nautical miles from the international airport.
Arrival and departure
Land on the coast and start there; the airport is on the Pacific.
Build the last day around the international flight, particularly after the east, which is the longest drive back.
Safety and practicalities
Carry identification throughout, as current advisories recommend, and use arranged transport for long drives and evening transfers. We check travel advisories before confirming each route and tell you if they change.
When to go
We fly year-round. In the rainy season the pilot in command decides; if weather stops a flight, it is rescheduled at no cost. November to April, every route runs as written, with dry roads and clear volcano views.
In the wet season, route one's mountain drives take longer, and routes two and three are the more predictable structure.
