It is the most heterogeneous origin in the whole network: from thirty-seven nautical miles to two hundred and eighty-two, taking in Pacific islands, an indigenous comarca, the Caribbean and an international flight to Costa Rica. On request per aircraft.
The destinations, by distance
| Destination | Distance | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Isla Contadora | 37.2 NM | Pearl Islands, Panama's shortest sector |
| Playón Chico / Guna Yala | 81.1 NM | Comarca with its own permits |
| Santa Catalina / Coiba | 98.2 NM | Access to Coiba National Park |
| Islas Secas | 158.5 NM | No public airstrip in the archipelago |
| Bocas del Toro | 161.3 NM | Panamanian Caribbean |
| San José | 282.1 NM | International, the longest sector in our network |
Why this origin is different
San José and Liberia serve one country and a single logic. Panama City does not.
Four kinds of trip coexist here that have almost nothing to do with one another: a thirty-seven-mile hop to the Pearl Islands; entry into Guna Yala, an indigenous comarca with its own government, rules and fees; a private archipelago with no airstrip; and a two-hundred-and-eighty-two-mile international flight to Costa Rica.
The practical consequence: the useful question here is not distance, it is what kind of destination yours is. Lead time, permits, and whether the flight solves your journey or only its first half all follow from that.
The specific aircraft is assigned on confirmation, based on passenger count, baggage and the destination field.
Guna Yala is not just another destination
It is the feature that surprises most. The comarca has its own access rules, its own fees and its own authority, handled with the comarca rather than with civil aviation. Access requires an authorisation handled by the area’s administration or your local operator, on their own timescales.
And something worth knowing before getting excited: inside the comarca you do not island-hop by air. That leg is by sea. The charter solves the entry and the exit.
Detail on charter to San Blas and Guna Yala.
Two destinations where landing is not arriving
Islas Secas has no public airstrip: access chains a flight to the mainland with a final leg coordinated by the resort.
Bocas del Toro is an archipelago; the airport is on Isla Colón and many lodgings sit on Bastimentos, Carenero or Solarte, with a boat in between.
In both cases the catalogue rule applies: confirm the lodging and its transfer before fixing the flight time. See transfer to your lodge.
A note on Bocas
Bocas del Toro is 161.3 nautical miles from its own capital and 122.4 from San José, in Costa Rica. It is closer to abroad than to home.
From Panama the flight is domestic and flexible; from San José it is international. Distance does not govern: the border does.
